Services

VersAbility Resources collects electronics and electrical devices (most any item with a cord or battery) from municipal, commercial and residential customers. Each of the collected electronics is evaluated for reuse or recycling and are processed using methods that eliminate waste to landfills. Components such as desktop and laptop computers, notebooks and tablets are tested for reuse, sanitized of prior data, reloaded with a new Microsoft Operating Systems and sold as refurbished equipment. Items deemed unfit for reuse are disassembled by our capable crew of people with disabilities. Those materials are sent to certified downstream facilities for densification and insertion back into the manufacturing stream. VersAbility provides a full spectrum of IT asset services to municipal and commercial customers. Services include pick-up or customer drop-off, on-site and off-site data sanitation and hard drive destruction, asset tag removal/reporting, certificates of destruction, recycling and data sanitation, web-based ordering and asset disposition tracking. Residential customers can arrange for a fee-based pick-up service or can drop off electronics at our Hampton, Gloucester, Norfolk or Virginia Beach locations. VersAbility Resources participates in over 25 community collection events each year and can plan collection events for community groups, non-profits and large commercial customers.

VersAbility completed the final stage of R2/RIOS:2013 certification in January 2015 and has been recommended for certification. With this award, VersAbility Resources becomes the only R2/RIOS certified Electronics Recycler collecting public material in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.

Mission, Vision, and Values

Mission
VersAbility Resources supports people with disabilities in leading productive and fulfilling lives.

Vision
We envision a world where people with disabilities enjoy dignified, productive lives of their choosing as fully accepted members of society.

History

The organization was founded in Hampton, Virginia in 1953 with a mission of creating community-based programs for citizens with developmental and other disabilities. A modest neighborhood endeavor flourished into a ten million dollar campus in the 1960’s; an established vocational center in the 1970’s; a contracted federal government service provider in the 1980’s; a robust regional employer in the 1990’s; and, finally, one of the most diverse, successful businesses in southeastern Virginia. Throughout our history, VersAbility has kept a strong focus on our mission: To support people with disabilities in leading productive and fulfilling lives.

Other Services Offered to Individuals with Disabilities

Children's Services
Our Early Prevention and Intervention for Children Program (EPIC) assists infants and toddlers with developmental delays. We assess a child’s needs and coordinate tailored therapy programs so that the child can reach full potential and be ready to enter school.

Community Living
We provide community living and residential services at nine houses in Hampton and Newport News, each offering a safe, supportive home environment for adults with developmental disabilities. Caring staff provides support 24/7 and nurses and dieticians are available. We are licensed through the Virginia Department of Health.

Envisions Day Support
VersAbility Resources offers activities and learning experiences for older individuals and those with more significant disabilities. Those we serve participate in a range of volunteer activities, enjoy arts and leisure programs, outing to parks, museums and events, and more.

Recreation Programs
VersAbility Resources offers a recreation program led by a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. We teach new skills and expand social and volunteer activities, which include group yoga, art/music therapy, walks, community outings, health education, dancing and more. These recreational programs help relieve stress, facilitate positive interactions and contribute to a joy of living.
